Delivering compassionate, person-centred care that empowers people to live independently and with dignity.
Avican Support was founded with a clear purpose: to provide high-quality, reliable care that truly makes a difference to people’s lives. Built on a foundation of experience across health, social care, and operational leadership, our organisation has grown through a commitment to doing things the right way – putting people first, always.
Our leadership team is built on people with real lived experience across the care sector their combined experience amounts to almost 150 years of knowledge, understanding and a passion for working together to deliver exceptional care.
Like many care providers, our journey began with recognising a gap: individuals needed more than just support – they needed understanding, consistency, and a service built around them. That belief continues to shape everything we do today.
We are proud to support individuals across Cambridgeshire and beyond, delivering services that promote independence, wellbeing, and meaningful everyday experiences.
Allowing people to remain living in their own home in the way that they choose for as long as possible
Charles is a specialist in palliative care with expertise in end-of-life care and the cognitive challenges associated with dementia. As well as a visiting lecturer at one of the leading universities in the UK, he is also a member of the International Observatory for End of Life Care at Lancaster University.
While working in Thurso, the northernmost town on mainland Scotland, Charles recognised a pressing need for high-quality, dependable care services that would allow people to remain safely and comfortably in their own homes. Determined to address this gap, he took the initiative to create what became Crescent Trust, now known as Avican Support. From the outset, the organisation was built on a clear commitment to delivering first-class care at every level.
Charles brought to this vision a strong combination of professional expertise, academic achievement, and practical leadership. His background in palliative care gave him a deep understanding of the needs of individuals and families facing some of life’s most challenging circumstances. At the same time, his earlier career in business management, IT, and healthcare administration provided him with valuable insight into the wider service provision sector and the systems required to build and sustain an effective organisation.
Across his career, Charles has developed a broad and distinctive range of experience, shaped not only by his professional roles but also by his continuing academic pursuits. This combination of clinical knowledge, operational understanding, and strategic thinking enabled him to lay the foundations for a care organisation focused on quality, reliability, and compassion.
Today, his vision continues to be reflected in Avican Support’s commitment to delivering exceptional care services tailored to the needs of people in their own homes.
